Menthodex Cough Mixture is a medicinal syrup formulated to relieve symptoms of colds, sore throats, and both dry (irritating/tickly) and chesty (productive) coughs. It’s designed to help loosen mucus, soothe the throat, and ease congestion.

Key Active Ingredients

• Ammonium chloride – an expectorant that loosens mucus for easier clearing.

• Sodium citrate – often used to help neutralize acid and used as adjunct in expectorant combos.

• Menthol (levomenthol) – brings a cooling, soothing sensation to the throat.

• Squill tincture – a herbal ingredient traditionally used in respiratory remedies.

Some versions also list additional herbal extracts like horehound, tussilago, and tolu tincture, depending on the formulation.

Dosage & Directions

Typical dosing (varies by product size, country, and age group):

• 100 ml bottle (e.g., Asset Pharmacy Nigeria):

  • Adults and children over ~12 years: 10 ml (two 5 ml spoonfuls), up to 3–4 times daily (not exceeding 40 ml per 24 hrs)

• 200 ml variant:

  • Adults and children over 12 years: 10 ml three times daily

  • Children 6–12 years: 5 ml three times daily

• Kenya-specific formulation (100 ml):

  • Adults: 10 ml three times daily

  • Children 7–14 years: 5 ml three times daily

The bottle should be shaken before use. If symptoms persist, healthcare advice is recommended.

Cautions & Side Effects

• Not for children under 6–7 years (depending on formulation).

• Avoid if pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to any ingredients.

• Not recommended for individuals with kidney issues, and may interact adversely with alcohol or other medications.

• The product contains sugars (sucrose/glucose), ethanol, and E218 (preservative).

• Common side effects may include mild drowsiness, nausea, or stomach upset; allergic reactions are rare.
