Generic Name: Brinzolamide Ophthalmic Suspension
Brand Name: Azopt
Dosage Form: Sterile Ophthalmic Suspension (Eye Drops)
Strength: 1% w/v (10 mg/mL)
Therapeutic Class: Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitor – Antiglaucoma Agent

Description:
Azopt is a sterile, ophthalmic suspension that contains Brinzolamide, a topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It is used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.

Brinzolamide works by reducing the production of aqueous humor (the fluid in the eye), thereby lowering intraocular pressure and helping to prevent damage to the optic nerve and vision loss.

Indications:
Ocular hypertension

Open-angle glaucoma

May be used alone or in combination with other IOP-lowering medications such as beta-blockers or prostaglandin analogs.

Dosage and Administration:
Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, or three times daily if prescribed.

Shake well before each use.

If using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between applications.

Precautions and Warnings:
For ophthalmic use only – do not ingest.

Not recommended in patients with severe renal impairment or sulfonamide hypersensitivity (Brinzolamide is a sulfonamide derivative).

Use with caution in patients with liver impairment or corneal problems.

Remove contact lenses before use and wait 15 minutes before reinsertion.

Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination.

Possible Side Effects:
Blurred vision

Bitter or unusual taste in the mouth

Eye discomfort or stinging

Dry eyes or foreign body sensation

Allergic conjunctivitis or lid reactions (rare)

Headache or nausea (infrequent)

If you experience severe eye pain, vision changes, or signs of allergic reaction, discontinue use and contact your doctor immediately.

Storage Instructions:
Store at 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F)

Do not freeze.

Keep the bottle tightly closed and protected from light.

Discard 4 weeks after opening.

Keep out of reach of children.

Note:
Azopt is an effective option for managing elevated eye pressure, especially in patients who are intolerant or unresponsive to other IOP-lowering medications. Regular monitoring of eye pressure is essential during treatment.
